Description:
Jim Rash Inc is seeking a motivated, knowledgeable, self-managed individual to join our team as an agronomist. The role of this position is to manage agronomy and ensure healthy and safe production of Watermelon and Strawberry crops. Duties will include but will not be limited to:

Determine harvest yields and quality by focusing on reduction of risks due to environment, climate and markets.

Crop scouting for weeds, pests, insects, irrigation and diseases for the maximum crop yield, while also training field managers.

Inspect fields before and during growing season.

Provides insights for covering crops and fumigation as needed.

Conducts research on factors that influence crop growth

Schedule and conduct regular soil, plant tissue, and water samples to assess field health and nutritional status. Analyze samples for essential nutrient content, soil salinity, nematodes, and other environmental attributes.

Keep detailed records on fields, crops and samples.

Assists with data collection of variety performance (to include brix, sizing and defects) and assists with assessment of yield.

Assists with selecting fertilizer and chemical needs for operation. Monitors chemical inventories, orders products and coordinates with custom applicators.

Works with the Food Safety Manager to maintain Standard Operating Procedures and spray/ fertilizer records on online platform.

Serve as a primary resource to our farmers
Requirements:

Valid Driver’s License
-
Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Plant science, Soil science or an equivalent

Basic skills in Microsoft teams and excel
-
Knowledge of common soil amendments.

Knowledge of plant nutrition requirements for several crops
-
Knowledge of soil and plant tissue testing methods.
-
Ability to work independently or as a team member.
-
Good physical strength and stamina to walk fields
-
Ability to travel daily and out of town as needed.
-
2 years of working experience in agronomy or closely related field
Preferred:
-
Certified Crop Advisor (CCA)
-
Knowledge of environments, climates, and soils for states up the East Coast
